Victorian portrait of a lady, oil on canvas

This is a stunning late 19th century Victorian portrait of a lady, oil on canvas.

As indicated on the back (and with the initials on the side of the canvas),  this is a portrait of Mary Ann Carey, painted by her son Charles W. Carey (1862-1943)  in 1886.   He later became the keeper of the picture gallery and head of art department of the Royal Holloway college.

It is exceptionally well executed and the light on this portrait is beautifully captured.

There are some imperfections to the canvas due to its age.
