Set of two beautiful botanical pressed flowers – 1930s

Exquisite set of two pressed flowers:  one from a botanical collection by the famous Swedish botanist Erik Asplund (see:, created in 1937 and another collected in 1933 by Nora Stromberg.

Asplund’s flower is the Statice Armeria Thrift (Sea Thrift) and Stromberg’s is a Centaurea Cyanus (black ball cornflower). Asplund was the curator for the Swedish Museum for Natural History from 1927 to 1953 and he has been associated with naming more than 60 new species. His collection is still housed and maintained in the Swedish Department of Botany.

These are beautiful pieces of scientific artwork, both in good vintage condition. The detailed description of the annotations on each page adds to the interest and appeal.
