Oil on canvas portrait of a Sir Archibald McKinstry by renowned society artist Cowan Dobson RBVA, ARBA

Large, framed oil on canvas portrait of Sir Archibald McKinstry by renowned society portrait artist Cowan Dobson, RBVA, ARBA. The subject is Sir Archibald McKinstry, one of the 6 ‘founding’ board members of the original British Broadcasting Company before it was sold to the Government in the mid-1920s and became the British Broadcasting Corporation. In addition to key senior public service roles in Australia in WW1 and the UK in WWII, Sir Archibald’s career included stints as MD of Babcock & Wilcox and Vice Chairman of Metal Box Co, and he was a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers, Institute of Mechanical Engineers and member of the Royal Institution.

There is small evidence of two small repairs on the back of the canvas, but not easily visible at the front.  In excellent condition, and with an equally beautiful original gilt frame.
