Mid 19th century French champagne bucket

An unusual mid 19th century toleware French champagne bucket made of ceramic and metal.  It is manufactured by the reknowned Chavagnat factory in Paris which closed down in 1882.

Buckets of these type were made for country houses, with staff transporting ice from ice houses in the ground.  It is heavy with a wooden handle and shiny metallic rim.

In good condition for its age.

This item would make a great accessory for the kitchen, but would also be a perfect food waste bin on the kitchen surface.
