1950s educational poster – the butterbur Out Of Stock

1950s educational poster – the butterbur

Gorgeous poster of a painting of a Butterbur by artist Oktar Zejbrlik, published in 1953. This poster is an original, used in Czech state education for nurses to understand the role and value of Butterbur for medicinal purposes (combatting fevers and allergies). The colours are truly beautiful. Supported by pine rods at the top and bottom with a hanging hook. Would bring real character to any room, and it would be very difficult to find another!

Vintage french table or small desk

This is a very elegant and dainty vintage table or small desk from France.   Most probably dating from the 1930s,  this attractive French vintage table features a small practical drawer to the front and beautiful elegant tapered legs.

We love the original handle, which is a very lovely feature.  There is some imperfection to the drawer, and a little repair to the top at the back of the table which is hardly visible (particularly once positioned against a wall).

A great addition to an empty corner or could also be used as a children’s desk.

Late 19th century French wall shelf

In good condition and probably dating back to the late 19th century, this is a beautiful and elegant antique open hallway coat rack with shelf.

The rack has 7 handy cast iron original hooks, the central one being slightly taller, marking the mid-point.  There are three ‘eyes’ on the top of the shelf for it to be affixed to the wall.

We love the delicate hooks and the lovely white original paint.

A great addition to a hallway or could equally be used in the kitchen for hanging pots and pans and displaying beautiful items on the shelf above. Works also as an attractive bathroom piece.

Set of two beautiful botanical pressed flowers – 1930s

Exquisite set of two pressed flowers:  one from a botanical collection by the famous Swedish botanist Erik Asplund (see: http://www2.nrm.se/fbo/hist/asplund/asplund.html.e), created in 1937 and another collected in 1933 by Nora Stromberg.

Asplund’s flower is the Statice Armeria Thrift (Sea Thrift) and Stromberg’s is a Centaurea Cyanus (black ball cornflower). Asplund was the curator for the Swedish Museum for Natural History from 1927 to 1953 and he has been associated with naming more than 60 new species. His collection is still housed and maintained in the Swedish Department of Botany.

These are beautiful pieces of scientific artwork, both in good vintage condition. The detailed description of the annotations on each page adds to the interest and appeal.

Rustic Hungarian hall table or desk

Characterful old pine table with drawer to the front, in attractive ‘period’ green paint.

This table has been loved for many decades with signs of age and use obvious throughout, including several dints to the top and wear marks around the handle. Some evidence of old woodworm in a few places underneath but this has been treated and cannot be seen.

A good sized table that would work well as a small breakfast table, a desk for a study or perhaps as a hall table for a large house. A great piece in a strong colour.

19th century “rusty” safe – highly original and decorative

A very unusual lockable safe of some age, with original working lock and key.  Manufactured by Charles Henry Griffiths & Sons of 43 Cannon Street, London, who were specialist fire and thief-proof safe manufacturers at the end of the 19th century.

Inside, the safe retains its original paint and lock, with three shelves, two brass chains to support the door and a pretty little drawer with knob in the corner.  It also has two carrying handles. We considered applying oil to remove the rust but, actually, it is the earthy original rust colour and beautiful patina which give this piece its unique character.

The inside is equally beautiful, and ideal for stationery or other valuables on a desk, or even for jewellery or as a make-up cupboard. It would also look good anywhere in the home as an unusual stand-alone piece. A rare and very useable find.

Early 20th century Thonet style bentwood rocking chair

Beautiful Thonet style rocker stained beech, with original tan coloured leather seat and back with lovely original metal studs.

In good used condition, it rocks very well and the curved design of this classic piece is enjoying increasing popularity. Some age and wear to the frame but overall sound, and a piece that shows it is not a modern reproduction.

A stylish addition to a contemporary bedroom or sitting room.
