Vintage running board card tool box

Vintage running board car tool box

£45.00

Early 20th century (around 1915-25) car tool box that would have been affixed to the running board of a car of the period.  Made of steel and painted in black, this box has an attractive handle and clever little lock that opens with the squeeze of a toggle located underneath. It has been repainted in grey on the inside and you can still see the holes for the screws that would have fixed it to the boards.  The lock itself is stamped Eagle Lock Co, Terryville, USA. Eagle were a major manufacturer of locks in the USA from 1830 up to the end of WWII, including it is believed for tool boxes for the Model T Ford.

Nowadays this lovely shaped metal box would be an ideal storage solution or ideal to store the smaller tools used regularly in the home.

Antique french Napoleon III armchair

Antique French Napoleon III armchair

£295.00

This French armchair, made around 1890, is elegant and very decorative, currently covered with a lovely velvet upholstery in cherry.  The current upholstery has a lovely worn feel and some of the piping is far from intact, but we think this adds to its charm.

Alternatively there is scope for reupholstery in any of your chosen fabric.  The chair is strong and sturdy, and sits on original turned ebonised legs and beautiful casters.

19th century oleograph of Napoleon

Unusual 19th century oileograph of Napoleon

£75.00

Unusual 19th century Oileograph on canvas of younger-than-usual looking Napoleon in uniform and holding a telescope.

In its original beautiful frame, the picture has, like its subject, been in the wars with some damage to his hat and in the right corner. However, it has lovely atmospheric charm with good colours, and would surely have its place in most homes.

Pair of vintage botanical pressed flowers – Lady’s Mantle and Wood-Bitter Vetch

£58.00

Attractive pair of pressed flowers, both collected during the same 1939 expedition by Swedish botanist Torvald Fransson. These are lovely pieces of artwork, both in good vintage condition (with slight discoloration of the paper that is evidence of its pre-war heritage).  One is a pressed root, stalk and flower of Lady’s Mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris), an herbaceous perennial that is a wildflower and member of the rose family found in Europe and Greeland. This was collected in Skillingaryd, south Sweden and pressed on 24 May 1939.  The second is a root, stalk and flower of an unidentified plant which is a member of the Leguminosae (or pea family) but we think it is probably wood-bitter vetch (given reference to orobus) which grows along the Atlantic coasts of Europe. This was also collected by the same botanist in the same area, pressed on 24 May 1939.  (A total of 5 pairs from the same botanist is available.)

The detailed description of the annotations on each page adds to the interest and appeal.

Would look wonderful properly framed or very simply hung on a peg.

Pair of vintage botanical pressed flowers – bog-myrtle sweet willow and coltsfoot

£58.00

Attractive and original pair of pressed flowers, both collected during the same 1939 expedition by Swedish botanist Torvald Fransson. These are lovely pieces of artwork, both in good vintage condition (with slight discoloration of the paper that is evidence of its pre-war heritage).  One is a root, flower and leaf of coltsfoot, a plant in the groundsel tribe in the daisy family Asteraceae, native to Europe and parts of western and central Asia. This was collected from an area called Vaggeryd in the South of Sweden and pressed on 16 April 1939. The other is myrica gale, a species of flowering plant in the genus Myrica, native to northern and western Europe and parts of northern North America and more commonly called bog-myrtle sweet willow, Dutch myrtle, and sweetgale. This was collected by the same botanist from the same area in Sweden and pressed on 9 May 1939. (A total of 5 pairs from the same botanist is available.)

The detailed description of the annotations on each page adds to the interest and appeal.

Pair of vintage botanical pressed flowers – bearberry and white clover

£58.00

Attractive pair of pressed flowers, both collected during the same 1939 expedition by Swedish botanist Torvald Fransson. These are lovely pieces of artwork, both in good vintage condition (with slight discoloration of the paper that is evidence of its pre-war heritage).  One is a pressed root, stalk and flower of the Arctostaphylos uva-ursi – or more commonly the bearberry, an evergreen, trailing shrub with alternate, delicately-veined leaves and reddish papery bark and small bell-shaped, pinkish-white flowers. The bearberry is found  in the subarctic Northern Hemisphere and, in the US and Canada, it is known as Kinnikinnick. This was collected by Fransson in Vaggeryd, a small community in the south of Sweden and pressed on 22 9 May 1939.  The second is a root, stalk and flower of the white clover (Trifolium Repens), a herbaceous species of flowering plant in the bean family Fabaceae, native to Europe and central Asia. This was also collected by the same botanist in the same area, pressed on 5 July 1939.  (A total of 6 pairs from the same botanist is available.)

The detailed description of the annotations on each page adds to the interest and appeal.

Antique tailor’s mannequin

£165.00

Gentleman’s English antique tailor’s mannequin. It has the original adjustable pine stand and retains its pine arm caps, which are usually either lost or missing. Cloth covered, some water marks associated with use and some chips on the top of the handle above the neck, but you can’t see them if you just twist this to the back (see image 4). Overall this rare find is in good, original condition. Perfect to add character to a bedroom or bathroom, and equally good for shop display or similar.
